Carbon

Trees are grown for up to 30 years prior to harvesting, meaning they absorb a great amount of carbon during their lifespan. The new trees planted to take their place have the capacity to absorb carbon at an even faster rate, which is another positive step in the journey towards lowering carbon emissions.

There’s plenty more that’s good about timber and its versatility for the building industry when it comes being a lower carbon alternative that supports a more sustainable environment! About half the dry weight of the timber is carbon which can be locked up and stored for the life of the building, which is sometimes hundreds of years.

The timber used in Calco’s frames and trusses is also a natural insulator meaning it can help reduce energy usage – yet another win for the environment and helping to keep greenhouse gases to a minimum for future generations.
